Alignment: Correct Scanned Image Orientation

Alignment corrects rotation, tilt, and perspective distortion in scanned images before they are read. Properly aligned scans produce significantly better reading accuracy.

How It Works

Nocarta has two alignment systems that work together:

System	What It Does
Anchor Detection	Detects anchor regions (logos, headers, borders) on the template and builds an alignment profile. Runs automatically on the server.
Live Alignment	Aligns uploaded scans to the template in real time when you use "Fill with Image". Runs directly in your browser — no upload needed.

Alignment Overview Page

Access via Advanced → Alignment in the sidebar. This page shows:

Summary cards: Total templates, templates with anchors, alignment-ready, fully configured
Templates with anchors: Table showing anchor count, success rate, instances analyzed, and status
Templates without anchors: List with links to configure anchors via Learning → Quality tab

Anchor Regions

Anchors are fixed reference points on your form — logos, printed headers, table borders, or any element that appears in the same position on every copy. The alignment system uses these reference points to line up scanned images correctly.

Setting Up Anchors

Open a form template
Go to Learning → Quality tab
Click Auto-Detect Anchors to find anchor regions automatically
Adjust positions by dragging corners if needed
Click Save Anchors

Live Alignment (Fill with Image)

When you use "Fill with Image" on a form that has a template image, you can enable live alignment:

Open the Fill with Image dialog
Check Align image to template
Upload your scanned image
Click Align to correct rotation and perspective
Review the aligned result before submitting

If anchor regions are configured, the alignment is more precise because it uses those fixed reference points. Without anchors, it uses the full image for alignment, which still works well for most documents.

Tips

Good anchors are high-contrast and unique. Logos, bold headers, and table borders work well. Avoid faint text or repeating patterns.
3–5 anchor regions are ideal. Too few gives weak alignment; too many adds noise without benefit.
Alignment is optional but recommended. It adds less than a second of processing time but can dramatically improve reading accuracy on tilted or rotated scans.
